evORElution

Wednesday, 3rd March, 2010

Following over 2 years of planning and development, and in front of a packed room at the Parmelia Hilton, Perth, ORElogy's Managing Director Steve Craig announced the release of evORElution and heralded a new era in Open Pit Mine Planning.

Having introduced the audience to evORElution and the concept of applying "evolutionary algorithms"   to generate multiple scheduling scenarios, Steve Craig handed over to Nathan Middleton, Senior Mine planner to walk through the power and flexibility of evORElution.

At the beginning of his live presentation of evORElution, Nathan submitted a multi-objective schedule for processing, and demonstrated how the client server architecture enabled him to continue working while a 100,000 blocks were being processed and  series of 13 optimised schedules were being generated on the server (in the background).

Having shown evORElution's user friendly interface and spoken about the ability to handle very large data sets plus multiple models, Nathan then demonstrated  some of evORElution's functionality such as scheduling drill-down capability for viewing short term variability, setting of multiple objectives and easy to use reporting.

ORElogy's development of evORElution is a paradigm shift in how mine planning schedules are generated, a shift that enables mine planning engineers to spend more time assessing schedules rather than wrestling with data and software applications.

At the start of the Q&A session, some 25 minutes after Nathan had submitted the schedule for processing, he showed the resulting 13 multi-objective, optimised schedules that had been generated while the presentation had been taking place.  A great result, in  such a short time frame, especially considering 100,000 blocks had to be processed!

There were number of door prizes, with the grand prize of a HeliWest helicopter ride over Perth won by Renato Costa of Vale Exploration.....Congratulations Renato!
